Krzysztof Czyżewski

Practitioner of ideas, writer, director, co-creator and head of the Centre “Borderland” of Cultures, Arts, Nations in Sejny, president of the Borderland Foundation and director of the International Centre for Dialogue in Krasnogruda. The initiator of many projects and programs for intercultural dialogue on the borderlands of the modern world (in Europe, Asia, and Africa). Board Member and co-author of the project Cracow – European Capital of Culture 2000; artistic director of the projects “Lublin – Kraków – European Capital of Culture 2010” and “Wroclaw – European Capital of Culture 2012.” He was a guest lecturer at the University of Warsaw, Vilnius University, Lviv University, New School University in New York, Harvard University, Boston University, Michigan University. At present, Czyżewski teaches at the University of Bologna and is Visiting Professor at Rutgers University. He received many awards and decorations, among other things, the Gabor Bethlen Prize for the “Man of the Central Europe” (Budapest 1998), the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture “Gloria Artis” (Warsaw 2005), the Order of Polonia Restituta (Warsaw 2010), Don David Prize (Tel Aviv, 2014), the Honorary Gold Star from the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture for supporting Lithuanian culture and art (2016).
